The professor was constantly comparing Israel to Canada to try to make a point of how progressive and normal Israel was, and how Israelis and Canadians were so similar in their fun and democracy-loving ways. Tel Aviv to him was the pinnacle of Israel’s Westernized normality, or what have you. Ironically, in drawing these comparisons, he also drew a great parallel between both of these countries’ colonialist, racist foundations.
